Red Sox vs Yankees play-by-play 7/6/12

Boston Red Sox fall 10-8 to the New York Yankees after the bullpen blew the one run lead in the 7th inning. Boone Logan received the win, while Andrew Miller got the loss. Rafael Soriano also got the save.

Bottom of the 8th: Unfortunately, the Red Sox were not able to capitalize with runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs.

Bottom of the 7th: Cody Ross belted an amazing solo shot over the Monstah to cut the Yankees lead to 10-8. Adrian Gonzalez then followed up with a single. After striking out Saltalamacchia, Joe Girardi took out Boone Logan and replaced him with Cody Eppley, who gives up a single to Gomez that places runners on 1st and 2nd.

Top of the 7th:  Miller relieved Albers. Granderson walked. Rodriguez followed that up by lining a single to Aviles that advances Granderson to 2nd. Miller managed to strike out Cano before being replaced by Padilla. Teixeira belted a triple ball deep to the center field corner to score both Granderson and Cano to give the New York Yankees a 8-7 lead. Ibanez then doubled to score Teixeira before Padilla was replaced by Atchinson. Chavez doubled to Ibanez to score the last Yankees run of the top half to put the Yankees up 10-7.

Bottom of the 6th: Boone Logan replaced Hiroki Kuroda.

Top of the 6th: Beckett was relieved by Matt Albers.

Bottom of the 5th: Red Sox took the lead when Mauro Gomez scored Gonzalez on line drive single. Red Sox 7-6.

Top of the 5th: Nick Punto picked up a liner and threw out Alex Rodriguez attempting to score. Rodriguez was nicely blocked and tagged out by Saltalamacchia to record the 2nd out of the inning.

Top of the 3rd: Beckett struck out the side: Ibanez, Swisher, Chavez.

Bottom of the 2nd: The Boston Red Sox offense is certainly abundant tonight. The Red Sox came right back by scoring the tying run again off of a lovely single by Ortiz. The single scored Nava who was originally hit by a pitch. Ortiz was called out on the play when he chose to head for second. Additionally, Kalish was unable to score the go-ahead run and remained stuck on 3rd.

Top of the 2nd: Rodriguez scored the go-ahead run for the Yankees off of a ground out.

Bottom of the 1st: Nava led off the Red Sox lineup by belting a double off of the Monstah with it just being shy of a solo shot. Kalish then plated Nava on a sacrifice fly to give the Red Sox a run. Ortiz hit a liner which was followed by a throwing error by Chavez that allowed for Ross to reach 1st and Ortiz to 2nd. Adrian Gonzalez doubled to score Ortiz and bring Ross to 3rd that set up a huge game-tying hit. Jarrod Saltalamacchia belted a three-run homer to right field to tie the game! His 17th home run of the season and currently his career high.

Top of the 1st: Derek Jeter scored the first run of the night, after Beckett walked Cano with the bases loaded. Teixeira scored Granderson and Rodriguez for two more runs. 3-0 Yankees. Swisher hit a sacrifice fly to Ross to plate Cano. Lastly, Chavez additionally hit a sacrifice fly to Kalish to bring in Teixeira as the 5th run of the night for the Yankees in just the bottom of the 1st.
