Will Middlebrooks, who homered Sunday, has nine extra-base hits and 13 RBIs in his first 10 major league games.

Today it was no contest on who’s the victor. Red Sox came out way on top in a 12-1 win over the Tribe (of course, they have blown a huge lead like this earlier to the Yankees – thankfully they didn’t do that today). Saltalamacchia was on fire, scoring five RBIs. Middlebrooks was also pretty hot today too.

Red Sox jumped on the early lead in the bottom of the 1st by scoring four runs. One run came from Middlebrooks’ single to score David Ortiz. Then Daniel Nava continued to have a great impact with the Sox by driving home Gonzalez on a double to left field. Masterson then gave up a two RBI single to Saltalamacchia to give the Sox a 4-0 lead.

Cleveland got their first run of the game in the top of the 3rd from a single by Jason Kipnis. But the Red Sox answered back with another run in the same inning. Middlebrooks scored his 2nd RBI of the night with a solo shot to make it 5-1 Sox. The Red Sox kept adding on the runs. Saltalamacchia got another RBI from a single to drive Nava home in the bottom of the 6th. Then in the next inning, the Red Sox tacked on six more runs. Ortiz scored Pedroia on a single to start off the six run inning. Next, Gonzalez doubled to advance Ortiz to 3rd which then brought up Middlebrooks to the plate who walked. Dan Wheeler threw a wild pitch that allowed Ortiz to go home and Gonzalez to 3rd during Middlebrooks’ at-bat. Middlebrooks and Gonzalez scored from Nava’s double to center field. Finally to make the last run of the night from both teams, Jarrod Saltalamacchia homered to center field to put the Sox up with the final score of 12-1.

The pitching was clearly superb today. Masterson lasted six innings, but was only responsible for the first six runs. Wheeler took the fall for the other remaining six runs. Bard also went six innings, giving up just one run, striking out two, and giving up four walks. Rich Hill came in at the top of the 7th and got a 1-2-3 inning by getting a ground out and two strike outs. Matt Albers also had a 1-2-3 inning. Then Scott Atchinson took the mound for the 9th and successfully closed out the Indians series without any damage done.

The Red Sox now take a two game series at Fenway Park against the Seattle Mariners. The game starts at 7.10pm tomorrow on NESN with Jon Lester (1-3, 4.29 ERA) and Jason Vargas (4-2, 2.79 ERA).
