Tonight the Red Sox continue their road series against the Kansas City Royals. The Red Sox begin at 8.10pm on NESN from Kauffman Stadium. The Sox will look to Bard (2-3, 4.38 ERA) for another road win whereas the Royals look to Danny Duffy (2-2, 3.57 ERA).

The Red Sox won big last night with a 11-5 victory over the Royals. Doubront received the win, while Padilla got the save. Middlebrooks is looking like my next new t-shirt purchase, which is saying a lot because I’m incredibly selective of which players I like to represent (they got to be great players, but also really good guys as well – i.e. I refuse to wear a shirt of a wife/girlfriend abuser). Middlebrooks is really powering the Red Sox. Will got 2 HRs last night and the night before he slammed a grand four run shot as a game tying hit. Anyways about the whole game, Doubront went 6.1 innings, allowing five runs (four earned), three walks, and two strikeouts. Before Doubront left, he loaded the bases and walked in a run to cut the Red Sox lead to just two runs. But Padilla came in to relieve him and that he did. Padilla had Butler hit into an inning-ending double play. Later Padilla pitched the last two innings to receive the save and notch a much needed win after the Sox had lost three home games consecutively to the Orioles.

Gonzalez unfortunately was in a slump the night before and went 0-8 against the Orioles, but last night he got the first RBI of the night in the first inning. He scored Pedroia on a single to center field. Then Middlebrooks slammed an opposite field home run to score three runs to make the Red Sox take an early 4-0 lead. Kansas City Royals struck back in the bottom of the 2nd and 3rd with two runs a piece to get a bit closer to the Red Sox, but Ortiz’s solo shot in the top of the 3rd still kept the Red Sox ahead 5-4. Pedroia launched a two run home run in the top of the 4th to give the Sox some insurance, making it 7-4. The Sox and Doubront had no problems until the bottom of the 7th when the Royals hit three singles to load the bases, which then allowed Brayan Pena to score because of Doubront’s walk to Alex Gordon. Then entered Padilla and well you know the rest, the Sox won. Oh and also Middlebrooks hit his 2nd home run of the night in the top of the 8th (a two run shot), after Cody Ross scored 2 RBIs off of a double.
