Sox lose and get swept by the Birds in 17 innings of play

The highlight of the game was definitely Middlebrooks’ grand slam in the bottom of the 5th inning to tie the game up 5-5, but unfortunately the Orioles’ Adam Jones belted a 3-run homer in the top of the 17th inning to give the Orioles the sweep at Fenway Park. By the 16th inning, both teams had replaced their pitchers with utility players. Davis for the Orioles and McDonald for the Red Sox. The Red Sox fall behind in the league 11-16 as they head to Kansas City to take on the Royals in a three game road trip before heading back home to take on the Cleveland Indians and Seattle Mariners. Red Sox gave the Baltimore Orioles the top of the AL East (19-9) with the 9-6 defeat to the birds.
