LoL – Draven, the Glorious Executioner revealed

Draven, the Glorious Executioner splash art

*details taken from League of Legends*

Draven is poised to enter the League this coming patch. This champion of the arena knows the value of enjoying what you do – even if your line of work happens to involve grisly executions!

For a ranged Attack Damage champion like Draven, proper positioning is extremely important for maximizing your damage potential while remaining safe. For Draven, however, good positioning will also allow you to utilize your primary damage ability, Spinning Axe, to its fullest potential. Upon activation, Draven’s next basic attack will deal bonus damage and cause his signature throwing axe to bounce high into the air. Catching the axe will refresh the effect, causing Draven’s next basic attack to also become a Spinning Axe. After a couple of catches, Draven can even activate the ability a second time to utilize two Spinning Axes at once!

Since positioning is so important to for this flashy ranged carry, we’ve also equipped Draven with some additional skills to keep him on the offensive. Activating Blood Rush will give you just the boost of speed that you need to get out of trouble, keep up the chase or rapidly reposition to catch a falling throwing axe. As an added bonus each time you make a successful catch, the cooldown for Blood Rush is refreshed, allowing you to activate it again to maintain momentum. Additionally, the slow and knockback from Stand Aside can help you chase down a fleeing enemy so you can continue your onslaught.

If you really want to showcase your trick shot skills, Draven’s ultimate, Whirling Death, is sure to make the crowd go wild. Upon activation, Draven will roll out both his hand axes in a global line attack, dealing damage to each enemy in their path. By reactivating Whirling Death you can recall your hand axes to your current location, bringing Whirling Death back around for another pass through the enemy team. Repositioning yourself with Blood Rush and knocking enemy opponents back into the line of fire with Stand Aside can turn this second run into a truly impressive and devastating spectacle of death!

Draven’s Wicked Blades (passive): Draven’s Critical Strikes deal bonus physical damage over time. Spinning Axe also causes this effect even if it does not Critically Strike.Draven’s Spinning Axe: Draven’s next attack will deal bonus physical damage. This axe will ricochet off the target high up into the air. If Draven catches it, he automatically readies another Spinning Axe. Draven can have two Spinning Axes at once.

Draven’s Blood Rush: Draven gains increased Movement Speed and Attack Speed. The Movement Speed bonus decreases rapidly over its duration. Catching a Spinning Axe will refresh the cooldown of Blood Rush.

Lore

Unlike his brother Darius, victory in battle was never enough for Draven. He craved recognition, acclaim, and glory. He first sought greatness in the Noxian military, but his flair for the dramatic went severely underappreciated. Thirsting for a method to share ”Draven” with the world, he turned his attention to the prison system. There he carved out the celebrity he desired by turning the tedious affair of executions into a premiere spectacle.

At Draven’s first execution, he shocked onlookers when he ordered the doomed prisoner to run for dear life. Just before the man managed to flee from sight, Draven brought him down with a flawless throw of his axe. Soon, all Draven’s executions became a gauntlet through which Noxian prisoners raced for a final chance at life. He used this trial as his own personal stage, and turned executions into a leading form of entertainment. He rallied onlookers into a frenzy, while desperate prisoners scrambled to evade him. They never succeeded. Rejecting the solemn, black uniforms of Noxian executioners Draven donned bright outfits and developed flashy signature moves to distinguish himself. Crowds flocked to see Draven in action, and tales of his performances spread quickly. As his popularity grew, so did his already-inflated ego. He belonged at the center of attention. Before long, the scope of his ambitions outgrew the population of Noxus. He decided that the glorious exploits of Draven should be put on display for the entire world.

“‘The best’ is wherever I decide to set the bar each day.” – Draven

Humble Bundle V packs a huge indie punch and several kicks

Once again, Humble Bundle takes away my heart again with an amazing collection of games. Forget about Indie Royale, Bundle In A Box, or Build-A Bundle, this time in all its glory Humble Bundle V features five amazing stellar indie hit games: Supergiant Games’ Bastion, Frictional Games’ Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Double Fine’s Psychonauts, Playdead’s Limbo, and Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP.

Two of my personal favorite games are in here, Bastion and Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP. I actually have S:S&S EP on both my PC and my iPad. Words cannot describe how amazing S:S&S EP is. The pixel-art is absolutely lovely as Jim Guthrie’s wonderful musical plays in the background of your adventure as this warrior girl who tries to understand the mysterious Megatome. The point and click adventure game is simplistic in that you don’t have to worry about your deaths or your inventory for that matter. It is a casual-style game that allows you to focus on the taking in the entire game through the amazing visuals and wonderfully humorous dialogue. Also Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP will be available in Japan on June 21st and a new remix soundtrack created by many famous Japanese composers will be available to purchase on the same day for $5. So if the game and its soundtrack isn’t enough, you have an amazing reworked soundtrack of Jim Guthrie’s innovative music on its way.

With that being said, Bastion has a similar style. The game is run with a booming narrative voice in the background as you control The Kid. It’s a hack-and-slash action game, but one where you must survive among the floating pieces of your homeland. Lost after the Calamity, The Kid must collect the cores that used to power Caelondia and use fragments as currency to upgrade and buy new weapons.

Additionally, the bundle includes Playdead’s Limbo, winner of at least 90 awards, and it is currently showcased in Steam’s midweek madness sale set to end in least than three hours. Originally published by Microsoft Studios as an Xbox Live Arcade exclusive, Limbo tells a story of a boy, who awakens in the middle of a forest, and must search for his lost sister. This black and white game, among this stellar lineup of games, is just another reason to highlight why video games should be consider art by any non-believers.

There’s also the bone-chilling Amnesia: The Dark Descent by Frictional Games. The survival horror game requires you to explore a castle through the eyes of the protagonist, Daniel, a young man from London. You are literally taught to survive. Without the use of any weapons, you must venture through the dark Prussian Brennenburg Castle and save yourself from any monsters that pop out in your path. Daniel, who has no recollection of who he is (medically known as a form of amnesia – oh why yes that’s the title), must use whatever hiding spots he finds to avoid monsters as well as barricading doors with whatever may be in the room, such as chairs or tables.

Lastly but not least (and it just so happened I talked about these games in this order) is Double Fine’s Psychonauts. This platformer follows Razputin, a boy with psychic abilities, who decided to run away from the circus and infiltrate a summer camp that helped others with similar abilities and create them into a “Psychonaut”.  A quirky adventure filled with memorable characters and tons of collecting, Psychonauts has plenty of content for maximum replay value.

Not only does this bundle contain five games (if you pay more than average and you darn well should! if not then shame on you!), but it also contains each game’s official soundtrack in MP3 and FLAC as well as DRM-free downloads for PC, Mac, and Linux for every game and Steam keys. Totaled at $110 retail price, this bundle is pay-what-you-want. Heck I bought this Humble Bundle even though I have three out five of the games. Look at the trailer below if you still aren’t convinced of this great bargain. Pay for some amazing indie hits and awesome music to keep you entertained for the upcoming summer while also supporting both Child’s Play Charity and Electronic Frontier Foundation. Check out the official website here and totally pick up this awesome bundle now.
