LoL – Draven, the Glorious Executioner revealed

Draven, the Glorious Executioner splash art

*details taken from League of Legends*

Draven is poised to enter the League this coming patch. This champion of the arena knows the value of enjoying what you do – even if your line of work happens to involve grisly executions!

For a ranged Attack Damage champion like Draven, proper positioning is extremely important for maximizing your damage potential while remaining safe. For Draven, however, good positioning will also allow you to utilize your primary damage ability, Spinning Axe, to its fullest potential. Upon activation, Draven’s next basic attack will deal bonus damage and cause his signature throwing axe to bounce high into the air. Catching the axe will refresh the effect, causing Draven’s next basic attack to also become a Spinning Axe. After a couple of catches, Draven can even activate the ability a second time to utilize two Spinning Axes at once!

Since positioning is so important to for this flashy ranged carry, we’ve also equipped Draven with some additional skills to keep him on the offensive. Activating Blood Rush will give you just the boost of speed that you need to get out of trouble, keep up the chase or rapidly reposition to catch a falling throwing axe. As an added bonus each time you make a successful catch, the cooldown for Blood Rush is refreshed, allowing you to activate it again to maintain momentum. Additionally, the slow and knockback from Stand Aside can help you chase down a fleeing enemy so you can continue your onslaught.

If you really want to showcase your trick shot skills, Draven’s ultimate, Whirling Death, is sure to make the crowd go wild. Upon activation, Draven will roll out both his hand axes in a global line attack, dealing damage to each enemy in their path. By reactivating Whirling Death you can recall your hand axes to your current location, bringing Whirling Death back around for another pass through the enemy team. Repositioning yourself with Blood Rush and knocking enemy opponents back into the line of fire with Stand Aside can turn this second run into a truly impressive and devastating spectacle of death!

Draven’s Wicked Blades (passive): Draven’s Critical Strikes deal bonus physical damage over time. Spinning Axe also causes this effect even if it does not Critically Strike.Draven’s Spinning Axe: Draven’s next attack will deal bonus physical damage. This axe will ricochet off the target high up into the air. If Draven catches it, he automatically readies another Spinning Axe. Draven can have two Spinning Axes at once.

Draven’s Blood Rush: Draven gains increased Movement Speed and Attack Speed. The Movement Speed bonus decreases rapidly over its duration. Catching a Spinning Axe will refresh the cooldown of Blood Rush.

Whirling Death slowly reverses direction and returns to Draven after striking an enemy champion. Draven may also activate this ability while the axes are in flight to cause it to return early. Deals less damage for each unit hit and resets when the axes reverse direction.

Unlike his brother Darius, victory in battle was never enough for Draven. He craved recognition, acclaim, and glory. He first sought greatness in the Noxian military, but his flair for the dramatic went severely underappreciated. Thirsting for a method to share ”Draven” with the world, he turned his attention to the prison system. There he carved out the celebrity he desired by turning the tedious affair of executions into a premiere spectacle.

At Draven’s first execution, he shocked onlookers when he ordered the doomed prisoner to run for dear life. Just before the man managed to flee from sight, Draven brought him down with a flawless throw of his axe. Soon, all Draven’s executions became a gauntlet through which Noxian prisoners raced for a final chance at life. He used this trial as his own personal stage, and turned executions into a leading form of entertainment. He rallied onlookers into a frenzy, while desperate prisoners scrambled to evade him. They never succeeded. Rejecting the solemn, black uniforms of Noxian executioners Draven donned bright outfits and developed flashy signature moves to distinguish himself. Crowds flocked to see Draven in action, and tales of his performances spread quickly. As his popularity grew, so did his already-inflated ego. He belonged at the center of attention. Before long, the scope of his ambitions outgrew the population of Noxus. He decided that the glorious exploits of Draven should be put on display for the entire world.

Humble Bundle V packs a huge indie punch and several kicks

Once again, Humble Bundle takes away my heart again with an amazing collection of games. Forget about Indie Royale, Bundle In A Box, or Build-A Bundle, this time in all its glory Humble Bundle V features five amazing stellar indie hit games: Supergiant Games’ Bastion, Frictional Games’ Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Double Fine’s Psychonauts, Playdead’s Limbo, and Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP.

Two of my personal favorite games are in here, Bastion and Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP. I actually have S:S&S EP on both my PC and my iPad. Words cannot describe how amazing S:S&S EP is. The pixel-art is absolutely lovely as Jim Guthrie’s wonderful musical plays in the background of your adventure as this warrior girl who tries to understand the mysterious Megatome. The point and click adventure game is simplistic in that you don’t have to worry about your deaths or your inventory for that matter. It is a casual-style game that allows you to focus on the taking in the entire game through the amazing visuals and wonderfully humorous dialogue. Also Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP will be available in Japan on June 21st and a new remix soundtrack created by many famous Japanese composers will be available to purchase on the same day for $5. So if the game and its soundtrack isn’t enough, you have an amazing reworked soundtrack of Jim Guthrie’s innovative music on its way.

With that being said, Bastion has a similar style. The game is run with a booming narrative voice in the background as you control The Kid. It’s a hack-and-slash action game, but one where you must survive among the floating pieces of your homeland. Lost after the Calamity, The Kid must collect the cores that used to power Caelondia and use fragments as currency to upgrade and buy new weapons.

Additionally, the bundle includes Playdead’s Limbo, winner of at least 90 awards, and it is currently showcased in Steam’s midweek madness sale set to end in least than three hours. Originally published by Microsoft Studios as an Xbox Live Arcade exclusive, Limbo tells a story of a boy, who awakens in the middle of a forest, and must search for his lost sister. This black and white game, among this stellar lineup of games, is just another reason to highlight why video games should be consider art by any non-believers.

There’s also the bone-chilling Amnesia: The Dark Descent by Frictional Games. The survival horror game requires you to explore a castle through the eyes of the protagonist, Daniel, a young man from London. You are literally taught to survive. Without the use of any weapons, you must venture through the dark Prussian Brennenburg Castle and save yourself from any monsters that pop out in your path. Daniel, who has no recollection of who he is (medically known as a form of amnesia – oh why yes that’s the title), must use whatever hiding spots he finds to avoid monsters as well as barricading doors with whatever may be in the room, such as chairs or tables.

Lastly but not least (and it just so happened I talked about these games in this order) is Double Fine’s Psychonauts. This platformer follows Razputin, a boy with psychic abilities, who decided to run away from the circus and infiltrate a summer camp that helped others with similar abilities and create them into a “Psychonaut”.  A quirky adventure filled with memorable characters and tons of collecting, Psychonauts has plenty of content for maximum replay value.

Not only does this bundle contain five games (if you pay more than average and you darn well should! if not then shame on you!), but it also contains each game’s official soundtrack in MP3 and FLAC as well as DRM-free downloads for PC, Mac, and Linux for every game and Steam keys. Totaled at $110 retail price, this bundle is pay-what-you-want. Heck I bought this Humble Bundle even though I have three out five of the games. Look at the trailer below if you still aren’t convinced of this great bargain. Pay for some amazing indie hits and awesome music to keep you entertained for the upcoming summer while also supporting both Child’s Play Charity and Electronic Frontier Foundation. Check out the official website here and totally pick up this awesome bundle now.

Assassin’s Creed III Ubiworkshop Edition for pre-order

Ubisoft has released a new Assassin’s Creed III collector’s edition along with the three editions they already announced. This new edition is stupidly called Assassin’s Creed Ubiworkshop Edition, but it’s available from Ubiworkshop, hence the name. The Ubiworkshop Edition contains the game, Assassin’s Creed Subject FourCompilation of Assassin’s Creed The Fall and The Chain, the ultimate collected edition for Cameron Stewart and Karl Kerschl’s graphic novel, Assassin’s Creed Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition – The new edition of the Encyclopedia, up to date with all 2012 AC content (including Assassin’s Creed III and AC The Chain). Basically it’s an edition that contains the game and two books. I already own the Assassin’s Creed Encyclopedia, however, I would like the second edition. The graphic novel seems interesting, though I have dented my wallet for the Freedom Edition and Join or Die Edition. Hopefully Ubiworkshop will sell the second edition standalone at least. The pre-order price for this edition is $99.99 ($10 savings) until the special offer ends on July 4th. You may pre-order it here. Also there is free-worldwide shipping. Oh right unfortunately it’s only Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 only, no PC edition.

Mists of Pandaria mount and tier sets revealed

Pandaren’s Dragon Turtle Mount

As most MMO players probably know by now, Blizzard Entertainment is working on their new expansion to their 12 million subscribers game, World of Warcraft. The expansion is known as Mists of Pandaria and focuses on a brand new race called the Pandaren. The Pandaren are well…pandas. Yes, once this expansion releases you’ll be forced to kill pandas in PvP and whatever quests Blizzard thinks up. It doesn’t seem right to kill something that cute, but regardless as it comes with no surprise MoP introduces a new world highly influenced by the Eastern Asian countries.

Wandering Isle

With this new world, Blizzard will introduce (and hopefully finalized) talent system which has been re-vamped ever since Cataclysm was announced and annoyingly it bears extreme resemblance to Blizzard’s Diablo III (you know there’s a reason one’s called Diablo III and WoW – you can’t just copy and paste the same attributes into games). There will be new quests of course, daily quests as well, and WoW’s Lead Content Designer Cory Stockton has detailed there will be no restriction how how many daily quests you are allowed to complete, compared to the present cap of just 25 daily quests. Oh right and they’re introducing the new class, the monk, who’s not restricted to only Horde or Alliance. More updates to come soon.

CD Projekt RED announces new AAA RPG title, Cyberpunk

Wait no longer, CD Projekt RED has officially announced its next AAA RPG, Cyberpunk, which is clearly fitting to the image they teased of well, a cyberpunk. In fact the video game is a “version of Mike Pondsmith’s classic ’80s pen and paper RPG series Cyberpunk” (Eurogamer).

The game is “a mature RPG for a mature audience” claims the Polish developer. There is still no word on which platforms(s) it’ll release on, but hopefully it’ll at least release on PC, considering the amazing backing CD Projekt RED has gained from The Witcher series as well as their digital distributor, Good Old Games a.k.a. GOG.

Also no word on the launch date, but check out TheWitcher.com tomorrow at 1pm EST for details about their upcoming RPG in a livestream.

“For over two decades, I’ve been proud to say that Cyberpunk’s been the gold standard of what it means to be a true cyberpunk game. And it’s been a huge success for me and our many fans, with over 5 million players worldwide,” commented the US author and game creator.

“But over all that time we haven’t found the right team to bring our cyberpunk world to full digital life – until now. CD Projekt Red is the team we’ve been hoping for. Their incredible work on The Witcher and The Witcher 2 shows that they share the same dedication and love of great games that we do at Talsorian.

“I’m especially stoked that they want our participation in making this game a fantastic project that will live up to everything Cyberpunk fans (old and new) have been waiting for. Trust me – this game is going to rock” (Eurogamer).

Red Sox above .500 along with the rest of the AL East teams, close up Tigers series tonight

Getty Images
Daniel Nava hit a three-run double in the fourth inning off Tigers ace Justin Verlander to help lift the Red Sox to a 6-3 victory on Tuesday at Fenway Park.

The Red Sox are finally above .500 baseball and just 3.5 games behind the AL East leaders, the Baltimore Orioles and the Tampa Bay Rays. Behind them are the New York Yankees (2.5 games out) and the Toronto Blue Jays (3.0 games out), then obviously the Red Sox.

Elise Amendola/Associated Press
Boston Red Sox’s Dustin Pedroia watches from the dugout during the sixth inning of a baseball game against the Detroit Tigers at Fenway Park in Boston Tuesday, May 29, 2012. Pedroia is out with a jammed right thumb, according to the Red Sox.

The Red Sox are winning, but unfortunately the main starting names of the Sox’s lineup is dwindling. Dustin Pedroia, who has played in all 48 Red Sox games, exited Monday’s game after jamming his right thumb in the top of the 6th inning. the following day, Pedroia received an MRI and was diagnosed with a torn adductor muscle. Pedroia is trying to avoid the disabled list where many of the Sox’s big-name players are. He’s attempting to create a brace that will allow him to swing, but won’t diminish the recovery attempts by playing. If worse comes to worse, Pedroia will be out for 3-4 weeks, maybe longer.

Yoon S. Byun/Globe Staff
Jarrod Saltalamacchia rounded third base on a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning. It was his eighth home run of the year.

In addition to Pedroia, Saltalamacchia exited yesterday’s game after playing six innings because of an illness. Shoppach replaced Salty, who was hooked up to an IV after being dehydrated on Saturday. Also Middlebrooks was feeling unwell yesterday night as well, guess a summer bug is going around. Ellsbury has been throwing while Crawford tweaks his throwing mechanics. Darnell McDonald, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list for a right oblique strain, will participate in a rehab game today before he is able to rejoin the Red Sox roster. Also Ryan Sweeney has been activated after being on the DL for concussion symptoms.

Matthew J. Lee/Globe Staff
Alfredo Aceves blew a save opportunity in the top of the ninth when he gave up a two-run home run to Sean Rodriguez. The hit gave the Rays a 4-3 victory over the Red Sox in the final game of a three-game set at Fenway Park. The Rays won two of three.

The last game with the Tampa Bay Rays, the Red Sox lost 4-3 (due to 9th inning two-run homer by Sean Rodriguez off of Alfredo Aceves) and dropped the series to the Rays before they took on the reigning AL Central Division Champions, the Detroit Tigers. On Monday, Doubront got his fifth win of the season and brought the Red Sox back to .500 baseball. The Red Sox won 7-4 on Memorial Day. The same day the Red Sox honored the original “dirt dog”, one of my favorite players, Trot Nixon. During the honoring, Johnny Pesky also made another appearance this season for Monday’s Memorial Day ceremony. You can check out the pre-game celebration to Trot Nixon here.

Yoon S. Byun/Globe Staff
Old friend Trot Nixon threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Red Sox opened a series against the Tigers at Fenway Park with a 7-4 victory.

The Red Sox went 2-0 in their Detroit Tigers series at Fenway Park after last night. Tonight they look to sweep them at home, before taking on the Toronto Blue Jays in Canada on Thursday. In the 6-3 victory over the Tigers yesterday, Bard beat Verlander to get his fifth win and Nava was a hero with his three-run RBI double in the 4th inning. Also Ortiz was on fire by hitting two doubles, one which was in the bottom of the 2nd and the second double scored Adrian Gonzalez in the bottom of the 5th. In addition, he also hit a solo shot in the bottom of the 7th as the last run of the night. Aceves came out in the 9th to relieve Padilla, who worked the 8th, and got his 12th save of the season.

Yoon S. Byun/Globe Staff
David Ortiz follows through on a solo home run in the seventh that gave the Red Sox a 6-3 lead. The game was delayed in the eighth inning because of heavy rain.

Tonight the Red Sox close the series with the Tigers with a match-up against Jon Lester (3-4, 4.72 ERA) and Drew Smyly (2-1, 3.14 ERA). Watch the game tonight at 7.10pm on NESN.
