Red Sox might pick up Cook

Don’t know who that is? Well veteran Aaron Cook is part of the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox and who recently notched his third win of the season yesterday in a 7-1 win over Durham, a Rays affiliate. He pitched a complete game yesterday and sports an impressive 1.33 ERA in three starts. In addition, he has nine walks and eight strikeouts in 27 innings with the PawSox. But the Sox need to act fast if they want to put Aaron Cook in their starting rotation; since within 48 hours the Sox don’t pick up Cook by May 1, they might see Cook asking for release. The right-handed also has a second opt-out date on June 1; however if other teams show some interest in him, there might not be much reason to stay on Boston’s Triple-A team. Acquiring Cook would help out the starting rotation, especially if Valentine decides to move Bard back to being the star closer. With the loss of Lackey and Matsuzaka to Tommy John surgery as well as the rehabilitation efforts by Andrew Miller and Rich Hill, the Sox have had to shuffle around their bullpen efforts. Cook might just be the answer to somehow improve the bullpen’s starting rotation.
