Valve’s DotA will be free-to-play; rewards might be incorporated into community play

Gabe Newell, co-founder of Valve, has stated Defense of the Ancients, most known by its abbreviation DotA, will be free-to-play. But what players need to know is that it’ll be free-to-play, but a few other concepts will be implemented to create a bit of a “twist”, Gabe Newell has explained. He wants to be able to reward and recognize the people that put the effort into make the DotA community better. Therefore, he wishes to acknowledge those people who create “useful in-game guides” and people who “volunteered their time to train lower-level players” (EDGE). These types of people might be able to receive DotA for free. However people who are consistently jerks and are rude would not benefit from any rewards. As Newell put it, “‘Now, a real jerk that annoys everyone, they can still play, but a game is full-price and they have to pay an extra hundred dollars if they want voice. That’s just one example'” (EDGE).
